Soft peaks of white cream
beaten as light as air,
spiked with some kirsch
to add more flair.
Filled between layers of
chocolate sponge so dark,
and plump red cherries
that special trademark.
Luxurious top layer
garnished with chocolate flakes,
and together it makes my favourite
Black Forest cake.
A bite into it’s richness,
it is nothing but divine,
and one bite follows another
in double quick time.
In walk my guests
and shocked faces I see,
they have spotted the Birthday girl
on her cake eating spree.
Squats and lunges
and treadmills at the gym,
but these black forest cakes
will never make me slim.
